The Mirror

(2014)**1/2

Inspired by “true events”, this found footage story follows three friends who purchase a “haunted’ mirror on Ebay in order to participate in a “paranormal challenge” (the details of this “challenge” are never discussed). The film follows the spooky events that occur once the mirror is hung on the wall. That’s pretty much the whole story.

The Mirror was inspired by a 2013 news story about a ‘haunted’ mirror that was sold on Ebay after the mirrors’ owners started having ‘bad luck’. Some idiot even purchased it for a few hundred bucks. I know I’m in the minority but I have yet to tire of the “found footage” genre. The Mirror is fairly generic and entirely skippable however if you enjoy the genre and want to kill some time it’s entertaining.

Here’s the actual ‘haunted’ mirror from Ebay,

Maybe the original was haunted because it had to look at the weirdly hung picture over the door on the opposite wall...

My friend once conducted an eBay experiment to just see how foolish people could be. She put a cotton ball in a small box, sprinkled glitter on it and posted it as a magical bunny tail. It sold for $10

I suddenly feel so sad for the person that bought the bunny tail for $10.

I think the experiment should be taken further...let's sell a GIANT magic bunny tail!

Good work as always scraping around the sides of the found footage barrel, JPX.

Mirror Horror could be a subgenre! Or a subsubgenre! Isn't Oculus about a haunted mirror? And the Mirrors movies, of course.
