Ki ki kill ma ma mom

From Darkhorizons, "Jonathan Liebesman ("Darkness Falls", "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning") is in negotiations to direct Platinum Dunes' remake/prequel of "Friday the 13th" for New Line Cinema.

Set to explore the origins of serial killer Jason Voorhees, the remake will incorporate components of the films, Jason will wear the mask, and the action will be set around Crystal Lake.

Mark Wheaton penned the script with production on the fast track to get it in theatres by October 13th, 2006."

Hold on a second here! "Jason will wear the mask?" I thought he wasn't supposed to be in this movie. What the hell is a remake/prequel anyway? I detect some mucking about.

From aintitcool, "Now the knee-jerk reaction to the announcement of the director that is in final negotiations to helm the FRIDAY THE 13TH remake/reimagining/rewhatever is going to be pretty negative.
The director, barring a last minute balls-up, is going to be Jonathan Liebesman who helmed the terrible DARKNESS FALLS, the surprisingly good bridge between RING and RING 2 called RINGS and the question mark that is the TEXAS CHAINSAW prequel.
Apparently the folks at Platinum Dunes liked what he did on CHAINSAW since they're in controll of this FRIDAY flick as well.
Frankly, Liebesman to me isn't a positive or a negative (until I see the CHAINSAW prequel, that is) for this project. I'm more concerned about how they're handling this movie. It's a remake... but Jason will be in it (with mask, I assume) and killing. I can handle a reimagining as long as it could just as easily be a sequel or at the very least fit into the world the original series.
DARKNESS FALLS was a turd, but I liked the look of the film. RINGS looked great and the tiny bit I saw on my short visit to the CHAINSAW MASSACRE prequel set (more on that soon) was promising. Liebesman has a lot to prove, that's for sure. If all he does is throw in a few hot college age nekkid girls and some inventive gore shots then he'll be on par with the rest of the series. Hopefully he'll go the extra mile, step up to the plate and knock this one out of the park."

From Iwatchstuff, "I can't even describe how low my hopes for this project are. After the Friday the 13th prequel, I hope Liebesman works on inventing invisible poop, because then he'll officially be an expert at creating unnecessary crap I won't see."
