Not surprisingly, animated Transformers makes a comeback

From moviesonline, It was only a matter of time, and it figures that the time would be before "The Transformers” movie hits theaters on July 3; the making of a "Transformers” cartoon, a new one, that is. Cartoon Network is planning a 2-D series called "Transformers Animated” to launch in early 2008, ordering 26 half hour episodes including a 90-minute special.

ComingSoon quoted the network’s senior vice president programming and development Bob Higgins on bringing the old kids favorite back to the animated cartoon world:

"Transformers is a tried and true draw for our core audience. Kids love the surprise of 'More Than Meets the Eye,' combined with dynamic, clearly defined characters and epic storylines. We are thrilled to be working with Hasbro to help re-imagine this amazing franchise for a new generation of fans."

The report included comments from Hasbro’s chief operating officer Brian Goldner, since Hasbro is working with Cartoon Network and will be releasing toys for "Transformers Animated”:

"We are thrilled to be working with the highly creative team at Cartoon Network on bringing the next chapter in the Transformers saga to kids and fans around the world. The animation style that Cartoon Network has developed really brings the lore and characters of the Transformers franchise alive in a way that has never been seen through animation."

This new movie is certainly "more than meets the eye” already with every market being tapped before the predicted blockbuster hits theaters to the tune of fanboy excitement and director Michael Bay’s usual pyrotechnics and special effects in formula set to ensure high-charged action.

Man, there's something about a cartoon made to sell toys growing up into a movie that re-spawns a cartoon, BOTH of which will involve more toys...it makes my head spin. Is there a more popular cult than capitalism?
