Prom Night remake officially horrible

From bloody disgusting, It was already revealed back before the film lensed that Sony Screen Gems' remake of Prom Night would be PG-13, but now a new interview with star Brittany Snow reveals more about the 'supposed' horror film that's less than exciting, "There’s no blood, guts or gore." Read on for more on the next When a Stranger Calls, which hits theaters April of '08.

"From “Hairspray” to horror, actress Brittany Snow sure is getting around these days. The bubbly blonde has just finished shooting the remake of the fondly-remembered 80’s slasher flick “Prom Night,” and told us recently that the film’s reinvention should make it more appealing to a ’00’s audience.

“It’s just taking the same name as ‘Prom Night’ the original, but it’s a different script. It’s actually more in the vein of ‘Fear,’ with Reese Witherspoon and Mark Wahlberg,” she told us.While we’re all for re-visiting Marky Mark’s salad days, the original “Prom Night” is still being watched for good reason. So, we had to ask: What’s the plot all about this time?

“[It’s about when] my teacher becomes obsessed, and falls in love with me, starts stalking me, winds up at my prom night and starts wreaking havoc on everyone,” said Snow. And after the onslaught of “torture porn” flicks like “Hostel” and “Saw,” the actress insisted that the psychological horrors of the new flick (which co-stars Idris Elba and Johnathon Schaech) will come across like a breath of fresh air. “It’s more of a thriller,” she said of the flick, directed by TV veteran Nelson McCormick. “There’s no blood, guts or gore.”

Will Murphy’s character of Donna make it home by midnight? We’ll find out next prom season, as “Night” dances into theaters in April of 2008."

Uh, I can see how a move away from "torture porn" is a good thing to showcase, but "hee hee! There's no blood, guts or gore" sounds like they're trying to make a family friendly horror movie.

Why even bother using the name Prom Night? Seriously, why would an obsessed teacher choose a big, populous night to close the crazy deal? Why not try to get the object of his obsession when she's alone?

Oh, and the first Prom Night is pretty sucky. Although there is a decapitated head that rolls off the main stage, so it's not as sucky as this.
