Into the Wild

From worstpreviews, IGN has your first look at the upcoming adventure film "Into the Wild," starring Emile Hirsch (Speed Racer). Based on Jon Krakauer's bestseller, the film centers on Christopher McCandless (Hirsch), who graduated from college in 1992, abandoned his possessions and hitchhiked to Alaska to live in the wilderness and return to nature. He died four months later in an abandoned bus at a remote campsite.

This is the kind of story we have heard many times, including in the documentary "Grizzly Man." The trailer shows Hirsch burning his social security card, money, and other possessions to be one with nature. His goal is Alaska, but before he gets there, he conquers some of the mightiest and most beautiful places on Earth. The film is directed by Sean Penn and in addition to Hirsch also stars Vince Vaughn and William Hurt. "Into the Wild" hits theaters on September 21st.

*Sigh* I have an aversion to Man vs. Nature stories. I have no doubt this is as good as everyone says, and if I read it I'd probably agree, but then I likely would never read it again, talk about it, or think about it.

They just don't do it for me.

Don't be fooled, what makes this one interesting is that it's really more about someone with schizoid personality disorder. The book is the guy's diary that details everything leading up to his fate.
