From worst previews, Director Tim Burton told Sci Fi Wire that he's eager to begin shooting a full-length version of "Frankenweenie," the short film he made in 1984 while working for Disney. Burton will produce and direct "Frankenweenie," the Frankenstein-inspired story of a boy who brings his beloved dog back from the dead, as a 3-D stop-motion-animation film.
"We're going to do that real low-budget," Burton said in an interview. "The thing that excites me about it and that will make it different is that when I look at my original drawings, there are certain things that are in those that I couldn't get in the live action when I made the film. So I'm quite excited to try to get a certain emotion and other characters in the new version, and I want to make it a slightly bigger story."
The original Frankenweenie offers a glimpse of the filmmaker to come with its odd camera angles, warped sense of humor and horror, use of shadows and even specific images, Burton admitted. He went on to make movies including "Batman," "The Nightmare Before Christmas," "Edward Scissorhands" and "Sleepy Hollow."

I don't recall Frankenweenie being all that, but I'm amped that he's doing it in stop-mo.
Now that I think of it, re-doing a live action movie in stop motion is basically the opposite of the Star Wars special editions.
