Ugly plastic box
Yeah I agree and I like the art on the former post better too.
In general, I absolutely hate the graphic artists/supervisors who look at a book or DVD release, look at the logical content that should be on the box, and then say, "No, come on! We can't do that...we have to come up with something FRESH and RAD for the kids!" And then they design some apalling new graphics that have nothing to do with the source material, become dated immediately etc. Space:1999 graphics are a good example. They came up with a new logo for the show, because, you know, the real one is so dated-looking, and somebody buying DVDs would take one look at the real Space:1999 logo and say "Ew! That's so...'old fashioned'! I was going to buy this, but now, I've decided not to."
At least here they picked up some imagery from the show. And I grudgingly admit that the TOS boxes were at least BASED ON the colors and fonts from the real show, although the packaging was more appropriate for super-soakers or gobstoppers than DVDs.
The box art designers forget that part of nostalgia is the original look of everything associated with the source material. I hate it when they “modernize” classic television/movie logos. Fifty years from now I hope to be purchasing Star Wars media with the blended “ST” and “RS”.
Hey what a great site keep up the work its excellent.
