Octopunk throws in a couple

Over the years I haven't had too many actual movie posters on my walls, but this was my fave for a while living in a Columbia College dorm called River. Unfortunately I placed it above the radiator and after several months it welded itself to the wall.

Here's the Akira poster I stuck in the hallway of my suite in River. After I saw that movie I could barely think of anything else for about two weeks. Below are two posters I never had but would've liked.

Next to my Akira poster my suitemate from next door put up this, which was probably the one thing she did that entire semester that didn't suck.

And here's the poster for Godzilla vs. Megalon, the first Godzilla movie I ever saw in the theater.* I only discovered the existence of this poster recently. The movie was realeased in Japan in 1973, and I love the crazy vibe here. Look at that bizarre color spiral for the background! In my head I call this picture "Monster Dance Party."

*That was in 1976, and the only other ones I've seen on the big screen were the Gojira 50th anniversary release in 2004 and Godzilla 2000 (you guess the year for that one).

In contrast, the U.S. poster that we saw outside the Bristol Cinema was pretty awful. Also inaccurate, as neither the World Trade Center nor New York City are featured in the movie, as I recall my father noting on the way out. I didn't care, I was completely enraptured by all the fun. I turned to my mother and said it was the best movie I'd seen in ten years, which was meant as a joke because I was only eight.

Later viewings have not been as good.

I would love to track down Monster Dance Party but all I've ever found are a variation without the big color spiral and the stupid American one. Oh well.
