Big is right.
Norbit, the oversized Eddie Murphy comedy, rolled to a huge debut this weekend, taking in $33.7 million, according to studio estimates from box office trackers Nielsen EDI.

Despite savage reviews — it earned recommendations from only 9% of the nation's critics, according to RottenTomatoes.com —Norbit enjoyed 2007's biggest debut and Murphy's fourth-biggest opening ever.
The debut was a strong follow-up to his Oscar nomination for best supporting actor for Dreamgirls. He's the favorite to win at the Feb. 25 Academy Awards.
"I think this shows what a versatile talent he is," says Marvin Levy of DreamWorks, which distributed Norbit. "He can star in family comedies or dramas. He doesn't get much credit for what he can do."
The horror film Hannibal Rising was second with $13.4 million, which met most projections. The comedy Because I Said So was No. 3 with $9 million, followed by The Messengers with $7.2 million.
[JPX] I know Boba Fett has nothing to do with this, but Boba Fett is cool.
