‘Bionic Woman’ To Follow ‘BSG’s’ Example

From syfyportal, Four years ago, "Battlestar Galactica" made waves with critics when Ronald D. Moore’s miniseries not only entertained for its initial four hours, but also spun-out a full series as well.
Now, NBC is looking to duplicate that success with "Bionic Woman" which premieres in the fall.
According to Newsday, NBC Entertainment executive vice president Katherine Pope was a huge fan of the series growing up and also admits to owning a "Bionic Woman" lunchbox. However, despite being a fan she has admitted that the original series was "kind of cheesy" and they plan is to change that in the new series … starting with the name.

Apparently, the network has decided to drop “the” from the title and are classing the new series as a re-imagining rather than a re-make in the same league as "Battlestar Galactica," which many people consider a cheesy series from the 1970s. The series also is set to include more special effects in order to bring the show up to date by adding some additional abilities such as a synthetic eye with night vision and magnification.

Originally though, Eick’s pet project was a completely different series altogether, however that project at the concept of "Bionic Woman" very quickly evolved into the same story.
"I was very intrigued by the principle of how to push a female protagonist in a new direction," Eick said about the series. "What does it mean to be an empowered woman in the 21st century?"

From Eick’s original plan, the series has inherited more than a few dark elements. According to sources, the accident which led to Jamie (Michelle Ryan) requiring the bionics has been altered to be more graphic and far more chilling than the original classic series. The series will also introduce a hearing impaired sister and a deadly criminal organisation led by Katee Sackhoff.
But although the majority of feedback on the new series has been possative, there are a band of loyalists who are already planning to boycott the series. This move will bring back memories to the fans of "Battlestar Galactica," who refused to watch the series as a result of the decision to transform Starbuck into a woman.

"Bionic Woman" premieres this fall on NBC.

Oh, please. These are the people who didn't like it when Frank Miller took over Daredevil. I'll be psyched if this show is half what Galactica is.

Seriously? There is an existing "band of loyalists" for The Bionic Woman??
Those people really need to get a life.

If this show is half as good as the original, I will get so damn hooked.

Once as punishment, I was not allowed to watch the original Bionic Woman, and I cried myself to sleep.
