Ghost Rider 2, to have more action, comedy, will most likely suck

From syfyportal, Mark Steven Johnson, who directed the first "Ghost Rider" film, is in discussions to helm a sequel, and he'd like it to have more action ... and comedy, according to an interview with IGN Filmforce.

"We're talking about it, yeah," Johnson said. "I don't know what I'm going to do, to be honest. I really want something different, and the pressure of the fan community is always so great."
What changes would the writer-director make in a sequel? "I would like to do something more comedy-based, go back to my roots like the 'Grumpy Old Men' movies and do something with effects," Johnson said. "I love effects; I love working with them."

There will be more action as well, if he has anything to say about it.

"I think one of my regrets for this movie was that Ghost Rider got so expensive himself, so it kind of cut away from some of the action, so for the second one, now that that's all built, that will bring the cost down on Ghost Rider and you can put more money into the fights, into the creatures."

"I mean, you'd like to see hell unleashed," Johnson said.

Other villains from Marvel Comics may be appearing as well, such as Blackout and the Marvel version of the Scarecrow.

"In fact, in my first script it was Scarecrow who was the villain," he said. However, upon hearing that "Batman Begins" would feature the DC Comics' Scarecrow, he looked for other adversaries for Ghost Rider to battle.

The entire interview can be read on the IGN Filmforce Web site.

The first "Ghost Rider" movie will be available on DVD Tuesday.

Can these two statements be more at odds with each other?

"the pressure of the fan community is always so great."

"I would like to do something more comedy-based, go back to my roots like the 'Grumpy Old Men' movies..."

Sooo, you're not listening to the pressure, you're just aware that there is such a thing as fanboys.

Clap. Clap. Clap.

I know, I was baffled by the whole thing. He mentions going back to the comedy of Grumpy Old Men and then mentions unleashing a hell on earth a few sentences down.

Well, watching all those "Grumpy Old Men" movies is kind of like unleashing a hell on earth...
