From worstpreviews, Both DreamWorks' "Monsters vs Aliens" and James Cameron's "Avatar" have been battling to get the May 22nd, 2009 release date. The plan is to release the 3D "Monsters" and "Avatar" in as many IMAX theaters as possible. At this point there are 800 theaters equipped to handle the films, but Jeffrey Katzenberg is optimistic that by the time his film is released, there will be 6,000 screens.Neither wants to give up the date, and at the same time, neither wants to compete with each other. So now, Variety reports that "Monsters vs Aliens" finally decided to give up the desired date and settled for May 15th, 2009, which would give it a whole week before "Avatar" hits theaters.
Getting the right release date could sometimes mean box office success over failure, but still being two years away from seeing either film, it is kind of ridiculous how much thought is going into this. There is still way too much time for things to change. Just this summer alone, several films (Transformers, Harry Potter 5) changed their release date within weeks of hitting theaters.

It does seem silly to plan this far ahead, but at least I know I'll be out of town when that big chicken/caterpillar thing trashes the Golden Gate Bridge. And they just fixed it after that Magneto business, too.
Yeah that damn bridge is always in trouble!
There are approximately 24 suicides/year off that bridge.
