The Darjeeling Limited - Review

Well. I, like million other indie movie goers out there, fell in love with the poster to this movie. Its playful, colorful, something fresh and gets your imagination going strong. So I think why not. I'll go see another Wes Anderson movie. They're fun, edgy. The movie begins with a short. We see Jason Shwartzman in his Parisienne hotel room and his push pull relationship with his ex Nathalie Portman (looking like a young boy post V for Vendetta). The decor is reminiscent of every other of Wes Anderson's movies. In other words 1960's kitch making the movie hard to place and the artsy dialogue suiting. The mind has more fun with these details than the dialogue. I suppose as with all of his movies, its the silences that make you laugh akwardly.
When the movie then finally starts Bill Murray *yay* gives us a cameo *aw* but its one of the best parts of the movie. After this Adrien Brody and nose board a train and meet up with his two brothers on a spiritual quest to feel close again. So we follow them on a very unstructured romp around India. Let me say the movie made me really want to visit India. The movie was only 1 hour and 50 mins long, but it felt tooo long. It doesn't matter how long a movie is, if its damn good you won't feel bored. The movie just had like 5 diferent endings. The ideas were all good but they all took too long too end. And Angelica Huston with Nathalie Portmans hair was gross.
But yes, must see if you want to fall in love with India. And if you wanna see Bill Murray running in slo-mo.

Good review, and I agree with you on every point. The best part were the funerals--very moving. But overall, I feel like Wes got stuck on his own schtick with this one.

Excellent review! I have a tie for my favorite line. It's either:

"After this Adrien Brody and nose board a train"

or

"Angelica Huston with Nathalie Portmans hair was gross."

I felt the same way about this movie: visually stunning but Wes needs to evolve, and soon.

It sucks when you are really cheer leading for a movie to just be great, and it disappoints like this. But it would be good to play at a party with the sound off and good music.
