The Teaser trailer for this Spanish film just recently hit YouTube and it looks mildly interesting, at least from the three shots we get of the film. For all I can tell, it looks like a handheld zombie movie, and I do love zombie movies. So, this one might be worth keeping an eye on. Check out the trailer below to decide for yourself.

Rec Gets A Teaser
From cinemablend, 1999’s The Blair Witch Project opened up Pandora’s Box for low-budget movie marketability. The handheld, faux-documentary style raised many interesting ideas about the basis of terror. The only goal of the Blair Witch was to create a convincing mythology, different from other films of the day. Of course, this technique has continued with Cloverfield (a.k.a. 1-18-08, a.k.a. Who Gives a Shit) causing a ruckus. The handheld video camera technique [JPX, oh great] draws you in because it isn’t filled with pretense, like contemplative story-boarded shots. However, the technique has yet to transcend its gimmick, and it seems that Rec is no different.

The biggest issue I have with the whole "hand-held" technique is that sometimes I get a little motion sick-y.
Ditto! Blair Witch actually gave me a very bad headache.
This looks pretty gimmicky. First because it's European, which in my opinion enables all sorts of unabashed gimmick-using (which is not always a bad thing). Second, because the guy with the camera isn't part of the story. It's obvious that the camera is not supposed to be there, which pretty much blows the whole Blair Witch approach.
