Remakes, remakes, remakes

From worstpreviews, A Variety article talks about producer Basil Iwanyk's upcoming slate of movies, which contains several remakes, including "Clash of the Titans," "Sharky's Machine" and the comedy "Spies Like Us.""Sharky's Machine" (1981) is about Tom Sharky (Burt Reynolds), a narcotics cop in Atlanta, who while investigating a high-dollar prostitution ring, stumbles across a mob murder with government ties, and responds by assembling his downtrodden fellow investigators to find the leaders and bring them to justice. The new version is set up with Warner Bros. and will be directed by Phil Joanou (Three O'Clock High).

"Clash of the Titans" (1981) is a film adaptation of the myth of Perseus and his quest to battle both Medusa and the Kraken monster to save the Princess Andromeda. The new version is set up with Warner Bros. and currently Lawrence Kasdan (The Bodyguard) providing the screenplay. The film is tentatively set for 2010.

"Spies Like Us" (1985) is about two bumbling government employees (Chevy Chase, Dan Aykroyd), who think they are U.S. spies, only to discover that they are actually decoys for Nuclear War. Very little is known at this point about the remake.

I'm psyched about a Clash of the Titans remake. IMO, that's the real cinematic inheritance of Lord of The Rings. Not the stream of "sword and sandal" movies we've gotten instead (Troy, Alexander, 300), but MONSTERS! Duh.

A Spies Like Us remake leaves me stupifiedly goggling. I can't think of a better application of the "don't make a remake, think of a new movie" idea.

If that's worth remaking, what else is going to count as a valuable, established property? Ishtar?

Spies Like Us is none of my business. If I ever did see it, I successfully buried the memory.

A Clash remake has tons of potential though. As long as they don't look to the first too much inspiration.
