From worstpreviews, Matt Groening spoke to Reuters, revealing that "The Simpsons Movie" will offend people, as it targets organized religion and environmentalists."
In America there's someone willing to pretend to be offended by everything and so we annoy people and that's part of the appeal," said Groening. "[The Simpsons Movie is meant] to entertain people and also to annoy a certain segment of the audience as well." (He also revealed that Homer will fall in love with a pig!)
Writer Al Jean added, "They are big themes, especially the environmental theme, but we always like to approach it from both sides, so later in the film when Lisa's giving a lecture about the pollution, the label of the lecture is An Irritating Truth.
"Reuters got the chance to see a ten minute clip from the film, which they described in full detail. May contain SPOILERS!
"Rock band Green Day is booed and pelted when it starts speaking about the environment to a Springfield crowd, while Homer's daughter Lisa is a green campaigner shunned by the town's inhabitants who simply don't care. She may also find love, however, after she swoons upon meeting a fellow campaigner from Ireland who insists he is not the son of U2 frontman and celebrity campaigner Bono."

The religious jabs are always going to have more punch than the environmentalist jabs, simply because it's much harder to lampoon the notion that pollution has bad effects than it is to bust on the idea that this fat book of stories about plagues of frogs and demons possessing herds of pigs is TRUE and if you don't believe you're going to another imaginary place where it really, really sucks.
Remember how unfunny the liberal-busting was in Team America? Same reason, basically.
Okay Matt Damon saying "Matt Damon" over and over was funny.
I agree about Team America. They didn't do a good job with Michael Moore but that doesn't mean that he doesn't deserve to be ridiculed.
I started watching Fahrenheit 911 again and now see it in a totally different light. At the time, many people were so frustrated with the political climate and the notion that anything spoken against Bush or the war was unpatriotic. We were dying for someone to speak out against Bush and therefore swarmed to see the movie. The thing is though, I don't think that a lot of what was put forth in F911 actually amounts to a cohesive, compelling argument.
