Playback

2012 **1/2

A man videotapes himself beating and murdering his girlfriend while trying to perform some weird video ritual involving her baby. Flash forward in time to modern day in the same town where some teenage kids are planning their school project around the events that happened that night. While screening a videotape from the crime, one of the students becomes possessed and is determined to complete the ritual that never got finished.

I love when I go into a film expecting very little and the payoff is better than expected. Sure it's a story similar to many others I've seen, sure the acting is a little cheesy and I'll even admit that the lead actress once was in one of the soap operas that I watched. But the whole video tape sequence is pretty creepy, I just didn't know what he was trying to do to that baby it was weird. Also, the story was intriguing enough to hold my attention throughout. Not one to write home about but considering the sea of crap some of us have screened already this year, I'll take it.

And they dug up Christian Slater for this one too.

Oooh, Christian Slater! He's got to be better then a sea of crap.

BTW, not that my comments are as witty as Octo's, but I have gone all the way back to Kidnapped and commented on everything. Whew!
