Uwe Boll's "Alone in the Dark" Re-Released

From worstpreviews, Lionsgate Home Entertainment will re-release Uwe Boll's "Alone In The Dark" in a new Unrated Director's Cut, which will be available for purchase on September 25th.

According to DavisDVD, the new version will feature three additional minutes. It arrives with an anamorphic widescreen transfer and Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks. Extras will include a new commentary with director Uwe Boll, deleted scenes, music videos and a video game."Alone in the Dark" is based on a video game and focuses on Edward Carnby (Christian Slater), a detective of the paranormal, who slowly unravels a mysterious events with deadly results. In addition to Slater, the film also stars Tara Reid and Stephen Dorff.

I'm trying to figure out why this film is being re-released. Not only is Boll the worst director that's still working, but the film didn't even make half of its $20 million budget during its painful three week theatrical showing. Not to mention that "Alone in the Dark" is #35 on IMDB's worst films of all time list.

Is the video game on the dvd the same video game the movie's based on? Or does this franchise just self-perpetuate like some stubborn strain of kitchen mold?
