G.I Joe movie sounds confusing
From filmstalker, I find it hard to get excited about G.I. Joe at the best of times, but hearing the Executive Producer, Brian Goldner, talk about the film's plot line just makes me confused and I find myself wondering if this is going to be for die hard fans only.
The best news, apparently, is that it won't be taking any notice of the television versions of the story and will head right back to the comic. Now I believe that's good, but listening to the comments I'm wondering if anyone not totally familiar with G.I. Joe is going to follow it.
Goldner says of the G.I. Joe film over at MTV through JoBlo:
"We all really loved what G.I. Joe was about in the '80s; we loved that story arc and the concept of Joe vs. Cobra...
...We all know of the Arashikage [ninja clan], and we all know of Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow, but we need to build that story... We all know the story of Duke, and the story of the Baroness. ... We know the story of Destro, but do we really? We need to go back and tell the origin story of how you get a Scottish arms dealer, who comes forward in history - how does that happen?
...In effect, this is all about the rise of Cobra Commander. ... For fans, they're really going to love this, because we take them on a journey. ... We have to go through the first chapter and then build from there."
Now none of that really makes much sense to me. I find myself wondering what they are talking about for the most part, and then he even says that fans will really love this, I wonder if non-fans will too?
Perhaps they'll find it too hard to deal with all these characters whose back story is just ignored and taken for granted that the audience know? Big name cast or not.

Just let me know when it's out on DVD...
Seriously. All that description was a load of hooey. It sounds like they have no idea what to do. "Um, ninjas! And Scotland! It's about some of the characters that are in it, and what a journey! Fans will love it! Potato! Umbrella! Spider monkey!"
