Trek Gets Support From Former Producer

From cinemablend, It’s not like he needed it, but J.J. Abrams just got some serious Trek cred for his upcoming Star Trek movie. Former Trek producer and Battlestar Galactica genius Ronald D. Moore recently visited the set of Abrams’ reboot of the franchise and had nothing but good things to say about their efforts.

”To walk on one of our old stages and see a Federation starship again was a treat,” Moore told Sci-Fi Wire. ”There was a positive vibe in the cast and the crew. I really appreciated the visual look of it, and I was excited to see the uniforms and all that kind of really hardcore, Trekkie geek stuff came flying back to me."

Moore spent years working on Star Trek during some of the franchises strongest period, contributing to Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Generations, First Contact and even Voyager very briefly before departing over problems with some of the working relationships. Since then he transformed Battlestar Galactica from a cultish sci-fi series of the ‘70s to an incredibly relevant and powerful new franchise today.

Although Moore hasn’t read the script for Abrams’ film, the former Trek guru has a lot of positive things to say about the direction the Lost creator is taking the franchise. "I thought it was a very smart move to sort of clear the decks, wipe the slate clean and start over. I just think that Star Trek had gone on for so long and had developed such a complicated backstory and so much continuity that it really wasn't possible for any one writer or any one group of writers, really, to keep it all straight anymore.” It’s a move that has drawn a lot of criticism from long time Trek fans, despite the inclusion of original iconic figure Leonard Nimoy.

Can Moore convince fans that Abrams’ reboot is a good idea? Probably not; That power is really in Abrams’ hands and will only be decided once the film is screened for audiences. Until then, however, it’s good to see one of Trek’s prominent creator-figures giving the move some support, especially an unrelated figure like Moore.

I don't know who the hell that is but I know I hate him. He reminds me of that King of Kong jerk.

I bet he's cranking Sweet Home Alabama in his car right now and singing like a happy dipshit.

Sheesh. It's like he's trying to tap into the coolness of Corey Feldman.
