We Came, We Saw, We Kicked it's (blue and very shapely) Ass!

Weather, shmeather.

Catfreeek, her hubby Tony and friend Sherry and I proudly gave the weather gods the finger and went to see the free Pre-Screening of Watchmen tonight. After an uneventful drive to Randolph, MA - got there early enough to get a bite to eat! - we went into the theater at about 5:30. Found out where we were supposed to go and kind of hung around while a small group of geeks slowly gathered. And a guy in a suit. Suit guy and another man who joined him asked who we were "with" and did they send us tickets or a confirmation email or anything. We said no, we were there with Myvue (the company Tom works for) and that as far as we knew they were coming with a list. I get slightly nervous.

Luckily, just a few minutes later cute-n-sassy Carrie shows up in her Myvue t-shirt and comes over to us with said list and asks if we are "winners?" That's when I say, "No, we're here through Tom Stearns." Oh! Cute-n-sassy gets even more so, and happily hands us over tickets and after a quick look in our bags from suit guy, we are in!! Not only that, we are in FIRST! Woo-to-the-HOO, people!

Oh, wait - did you want to hear about the movie? Sorry. I won't say much, of course. I was the only one among our group that had read the comic, albeit not long ago. I was curious what the others' thought were as they had not read it - overall, the response was very positive. I am not sure I would have enjoyed the movie as much as I did if I had not read the source material. I think, and as Cat et al showed, it's a good movie either way. For me, knowing how things unfolded helped keep it all interesting.

I tend not to be too harsh a critic in general, and I don't claim to have the comic background that may shadow others' opinions, but I really thought it was totally fucking awesome. And now I can't wait for the rest of you to see it so we can all talk about it!! So, hurry up!

Awesome! Isn't it fun being on a VIP list like that? I love them shits. Cute-n-sassy, huh? Guess Tom is doing the hiring around there now, too.

Bastard's at the L.A. premiere as we speak, of course.

Anyway, we arranged for grandma to babysit on the 6th weeks ago, so we're good to go.

Ooh, soooo jealous! I tend not to do opening nights in LA as they're kind of stressful, but it won't be long...

And maybe I'll make a special effort for this one.

You rock Dana's Brain! Way to not let a bunch of precipitation in the form of crystalline water ice, consisting of a multitude of snowflakes that fall from clouds prevent your attendance!

I'm reading Watchmen for the 1st time right now and - WOW.

yay dana and cat and friend! so sad to miss last night, so glad you guys had a great experience.

have a couple of different possibilities when to see it, may bow to peer pressure and see it thursday midnight with my younger and more energetic boston friends; if i can resist said peer pressure, then some point during the weekend.

johnny... whah? i'm torn between jealousy of your getting to read it for the first time and astonishment that you haven't read it before.

I never wanted to admit this to the blog at large, but I had NEVER read Watchmen, despite being a total comic whore back in the day, and peaking in my collecting activities right around the time Watchmen was out. I have no excuse. That's why I refrained from commenting on any Watchmen-related postings in the past.

I ordered it last week, and just finished it yesterday. I can't believe I hadn't been forced to read it over the years by other, more knowledgeable geeks. It's seriously deserving of all the non-comic related praise (Time Magazine, etc.).

And Dana's Brain/JSP, I don't know if it struck you this way, but I've heard that the popular opinion of geekdom was that Watchmen could "never be made" into a movie. Well, the damn thing reads EXACTLY like a movie, with crosscuts between the panels, flashbacks, voiceovers, etc. It's almost like a storyboard for the movie. Snyder, from what the G4 special has shown, has stayed incredibly faithful. Except he put guns in the Owlship, which I'm cool with.

Can't wait to see it! Jealous! Very jealous!
