Are people taking a break from reviews or is everyone done?

I still have a bunch to write but I don't want to hold things up if everyone else is done.

I think I'm done and I'm working on my wrap up.

2 more to go... hope to get to them this weekend if life is sufficiently quiet.

I've got a few still in the pipeline. Various bizarre things happened and I'm not done yet.

"Various bizarre things" Now I'm intrigued.

Yeah Jordan, do tell.

Sigh. I have no less than ten left. I was going to do a post suggesting a mid-December deadline...

But the Lego contest that I won a prize in last year has started again, and I have a really good idea for it, but I'll have to finish it before we go home for Xmas. So I might put all reviewing on hold until afterwards.

I know that kind of sucks but I can't seem to write a short review these days. There's a couple I want to get my own screen caps for, which is a hassle because the optical drive on my computer needs to be replaced.

Whine whine whine. Perhaps we should just eat it and do our best-ofs now, knowing that some of the flicks we refer to haven't been reviewed yet. I definitely will write all my reviews (as I think I proved in September) and I don't want to take all year to do them (which I still need to prove).

What I'd really like to do is encourage more movie reviews during the off months. I want to get to more Godzilla flicks, I think a James Bond roundup would be good, etc.

"Various bizarre things": Nothing really happened; just work stuff. I use that phrase because of Monty Python:

In the '90s, some publishing house put out a two-volume set containing the scripts (or, transcripts) of all the sketches from Flying Circus. I flipped through the books in the store, curious how many jokes they would overlay by means of the italicized descriptions, etc. It turned out that they'd gone the opposite direction, maintaining a very staid, formal accurate tone while explaining the actions of the characters etc. I flipped back and read the description of the very first Flying Circus opening, which begins with Palin as the dude in the ripped clothes doing his "It's..." schtick, and then cuts to the famous Terry Gilliam animated titles, described as follows:

[Animated title sequence. Various bizarre things happen.]

They don't even try to go into detail about the balloons, the big foot, the plumbing etc. This terse description is something I've always found incredibly, indescribably funny, so I use it any time I have to account for any time lapse. You had to ask, right?

Oh, and Octopunk: stop whining and write your reviews before the deadline! You invented this gig; you've got to play by the rules. :)

I think I have 35 left to write. Maybe I can get in at least a couple between my class projects.

Ah, see, I am playing by the rules, as far as they exist. As JSP pointed out in my Horrorthon Roundup post a few weeks ago, we bicker about deadlines every year but never establish any.

By blunt logic I reckoned the window must close by the start of the next Horrorthon, so I finished my '08 reviews by the end of September '09. That's the only precedent we've got.

That Monty Python item is a riot, b the way. I am similarly amused by the dry accounts of Simpsons and MST3K episodes in their respective episode guides.

B the way, it is not cool to type the entire word "by" anymore.

That picture is great. I never saw those styly painted details on the side of the power droid before. They kind of don't work, so probably better you never spot them in the movie.

JPX said...

The Kenner Power Droid figure has a little of that on the side.

I have one movie left, but with so many other holiday-ish things happening, I'm not feeling it. So, I'm okay with the deadline. I'll just swallow the last film.

JPX said...

Well look who's back!

Octopunk said...

And there's still no deadline! Maybe end of January? That way we could all take a break for the holidays and then jump back in during January when nothing's happening.
