Bonus Horrorthon Challenge!

Pop quiz, hot shots:

How many of the 72 horror icons can you identify?

The Rules: Click on the images to embiggen them. Make a 1-72 list. Name the movie each killer represents and then paste your answers in the comments section before reading anyone else's responses. Horrorthon mascot Gretchen is #35.

- You don't have to name a movie for Alfred Hitchcock, Vincent Price or Peter Cushing as long as you tag them.

- Everyone else is a proper horror movie killer.

- You don't have to specify a a sequel in a series such as Friday the 13th (but it would be pretty cool if you did).

The Prize: There is no prize.

Good luck.

Don't cheat.

It is so excellent that you did this! When you do things like this I feel like it's magic since I have no idea how this stuff is executed. I would like to participate but unfortunately I collaborated with you on the making of this banner so I generally know 99% of what's up there. Catfreeek should probably stay away from it as well.

It was actually somewhat of a pain in the ass but worth it for your "magic" comment! If you know all the answers JPX then count how many of the 71 movies have you seen? Personally I still have yet to see Basket Case, Phantom of the Opera, Trilogy of Terror, Gingerdead Man, Puppet Master and Rubber. Maybe next year!

Right now I've got it whittled down to just 5 left that I don't know, but I know I know them. The brain is not cooperating at the moment. I will wait to post my list until the game is done:)

Oh yay, I'm first! I wasn't even opening the comments page until I did my list.

I just sat down and banged that out, I thought that was best. I stuck some question marks on some details that I'm unsure of, but there are still more I didn't bother marking. For example, I'm unsure of #8; I've seen Suspiria but it's been a long time.

The only total stumper was #30. And I thought the baby from Dead Alive was a Ghoulie until I got to the actual Ghoulie.

I'm going to catch up on comments and do my Best Ofs pretty soon. I had to take a break after that final push.

Your so close Octo, 30 is The Toxic Avenger, 57 is Isaac and 61 is Sam. I'm not sure about 60, I didn't get that one.

Catfreeek said...

63, the deformed twin's name is Belisle.

Crystal Math said...

I know I won't be able to identify more than, like, two so . . . ummmm. . . can I bribe you with pumpkin chocolate cupcakes?

Catfreeek said...

Yes! Will you ship them to RI?

Johnny Sweatpants said...

Crystal that's ridiculous - I counted 9 movies that we watched together up there. However a pumpkin chocolate cupcake sounds sublime right about now so you've got yourself a deal young lady!

Octo - I'm impressed! The only one you missed was #30 The Toxic Avenger. I made an answer key and I actually mistook The Fly for The Thing. Also I didn't remember many of those names. I'm impressed that you remembered Myron!

Also the #16 Tor Johnson pic is from Plan 9 From Outer Space and #37 is Gary Busey as the Gingerdead Man.

You were also right about Savini in Dawn of the Dead!

Double Boner question: Who is the only actor to appear twice in the banner?

Johnny Sweatpants said...

I thought that the Evil Dead baby would be the stumper.

Crystal Math said...

All right, all right I admit I gave up before I even started -- Catfreeek, I'm going to be in your neck o' the woods in February so shipping won't be necessary.

Johnny Sweatpants said...

Won't the cupcake get stale by then?

Catfreeek said...

WooHoo!!Cupcakes in February!

JSP-Karloff is in there twice

Johnny Sweatpants said...

3 comments ago I meant to say "Dead Alive baby" not "Evil Dead baby". Jeez, I'm losing it. Too much horror..

Well played Catfreeek - Boris Karloff for the win! I didn't want to include Karloff twice but he is the definitive Frankenstein monster and the only other Mummy options were Christopher Lee (who is already present as Summerisle) and the Brendan Fraser poop.

I'm still trying to recall which movie I took the Vincent Price pic from. I know I nabbed it from one of JPX's reviews but I can't for the life of me remember which one.

One more question - is there any horror icon who deserves to be added to the banner? I fully intend to throw Godzilla and maybe Christine (the car) in there but it will require mass rearranging and shrinking.

Crystal Math said...

I giggle every time I read the word "embiggen."

Also, Catfreeek -- I am down for baking/cooking of any type, any time. Despite all my feminist meanderings I am such a goddamn domestic.

Catfreeek said...

Domestic skills are great, I got the feeling the two of us could tear up a kitchen quite nicely.

JSP-You might add Roman & Minnie Castevet, Pyramid Head, Babyface, a killer tomato, The blob and that gross guy from Slither. Just a thought.

JPX said...

JSP I believe that Vincent Price shot is from The House on Haunted Hill.

Johnny Sweatpants said...

Crystal I had cereal coming out of my nose because I was laughing so hard at you mistaking Cheech Marin for Tom Savini. Savini is horror royalty because of his trailblazing gory special effects in Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, Creepshow and Texas Chainsaw 2. He also has acting roles in Dawn of the Dead (1978, leader of the biker gang), From Dusk Till Dawn, Land of the Dead and Planet Terror. And he made guest appeared on the Simpsons as himself.

JPX, I checked - it's not House on Haunted Hill. Now I want to know even more!

Catfreeek - excellent suggestions!

Catfreeek said...

You should put the golem on there from It! just because he's really cool.

Johnny Sweatpants said...

Octo - #56 is Bub from Day of the Dead. And the Jason was taken from Part VI, so you were right to eliminate 1,2 & 4.

Cat - you're right, that Golem was sweet looking!

Octopunk said...

Oops! That was a total Evil Dead/Dead Alive screw up. And I didn't eliminate 4 but rather 5.

Let me follow that nerd dis with a big thanks for the quiz and maintaining the banner in general. Since you mentioned Godzilla I can't think of anyone else who's missing right now. Maybe the Slit-Mouthed Woman? She's worthy, but not, like, required.

Catfreeek said...

I also think the big mouth vampire bitch from Fright Night should be there.

Abduscias said...

From my first day until today, I still think #36 looks like a penis....

Catfreeek said...

Hahahahaha!! It does!

Tami said...

Here's the best I can do. Admittedly, lots of these are guesses. Hmm, probably guesses based off of stuff I've learned from lurking on the horrorthon blog for years considering 've only seen 5 or 6 of these movies.

3. Bride of Frankenstein
4. Frankenstein
5. Mummy
6. Jaws
7. Goonies/Coneheads?
8. Nurse Ratched (I've got to be wrong on this one because no one's reviewed One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest, despite the fact that it could be considered quite terrifying).
9. It
10. Dracula
14. King Kong
18. Saw
19. Scream
24. Mummy
28. Ash from Evil Dead
31. A Leprechaun
33. Michael Myers from Halloween
34. Blacula
35. Gretchen
36. Aliens
38. Freddie from Nightmare on Elm St
40. Jason from Friday the 13th
41. Kathy Bates.... from, um, Misery?
46. Chuckie
50. Hitchcock
51. Hellraiser
54. The Shining
55. The invisible Man
57. Looks like someone from Witness--but definitely not Lukas Haas
61. Trick or Treat or something like that.... argh! I remember reading reviews on this but now I have no idea. It was a name that was very Halloween themed though....
64. The Exorcist
65. Hannibal from Silence of the Lambs
66. Piranha?
67. Cujo
68. The Orphanage

I was hoping for another easily recognizable Godzilla.... Also did I miss anything from Predator or Pet cemetery?
