Vote Vote Vote! Vote for your favorites!

Welcome to the first ever Horrorthonner Favorite Awards! Or Something! I Don't Know What We'll Call Them! Welcome!

It's been another great contest and I think now more than ever we should formally recognize the talents on display here besides the uncanny ability to hork down fat plates of horror. Mmm-MMM!

In the comments of this post, cast a vote for your favorite example of the following categories among all the reviews of Horrorthon 2011.

All-around favorite review
Funniest review
Best So Bad It's Good review
Best discovery
Most obscure discovery
Best coverage of a theme or series
Best screenshot
Funniest comment

If you wish to review further, check the technological marvel that is the Horrorthon Score Page for links to everyone's work. Feel free to add a category or, if you can't think of a good example of something, leave a category out. This is our first time with this and things can be even more fluid than usual. That also means the floor is open to any questions or comments along the way.

The Best Ofs holdouts are still encouraged to post! We miss you!

We'll be posting results on Sunday, and then I'll reveal the winner of September's Caption Contest on Monday and we'll be back to business for Xmas. Horrorthon has been one of my favorite things about the holiday season since it started, and this was a banner year. Thanks for coming back, everybody.

Now vote!

This is my first time doing this and all I can think is, There were SO many movies reviewed!!! So, great job everyone! Here goes:

All-around favorite reviewThe Mist; it got a lot of positive feedback and was fun/funny to write.

Funniest review – JSP's review for Blood Harvest. It almost makes me crave the crooning of Tiny Tim's voice, or JSP's best impression of it.

Best So Bad It's Good review – Octo's review of Godzilla. God I hated that movie!

Best discovery100 Tears!

Most obscure discoveryTomb of Ligeia was pretty noteworthy (I was stoked to find something the H-Thon veterans hadn't heard of!

Best coverage of a theme or series – JSP's clown-fetish "theme" was quite thorough.

Best screenshot – The smoking dead-lady from Catfreeek's review of Dead and Gone. It just stood out on its own, and made me giggle.

Funniest Comment -- Catfreeek's comment on my first review for Insidious: "Welcome Crystal! Excellent first review. I'm so happy to hear that Horrorthon beat the crap out of Chaz Bono." Poor Chaz.

I need to suck bed but I want to contribute now so I'll start with -

Funniest Review - Piranha 3D by Octopunk

Funniest Comment - 50 Page (on my Blood Harvest review) - " In a parallel universe, this film is a huge hit and the trailer for it contains that "in a world..." voice-over guy pointing out that "critics are raving about Tiny Tim's performance. peter travers of the rolling stone calls it, 'the role Tiny Tim was born to play.'"

Best coverage of a theme or series: JPX - found footage films. At first I rolled my eyes but soon realized that my brother was onto something awesome.

Best Discoverer (rather than discovery) - JPX for Trollhunter, Rare Exports, Lake Mungo, Meadowoods and The Tunnel.

I need to sleep on the rest of them and especially All Around Favorite Review... There's at least a dozen I need to choose between. ZZzzzzz...

I just have to point out JPX that I reviewed Lake Mungo last year.

All-around favorite review - I give to AC for “Eegah”, a movie was never so well defined in one sentence.

Funniest review – Octopunk’s “The Giant Behemoth” and a close second being his “Godzilla Vs. Gigan” review.

Best So Bad It's Good review – Abduscias for “Asylum”, “Oh, come on..you can run away from the leg..it's not going to BITE you! Hahahaha!”

Best discovery- Gotta give it to Me & Abby for “Santa Sangre”, best movie I’ve seen all year.

Most obscure discovery – JPX gets this one for “Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale” It sits at the top of my queue and I can only hope Netflix with see fit to send it to me before Christmas.

Best coverage of a theme or series- Let’s see, as I see it the three definitive candidates for this category were JPX for his found footage extravaganza, JSP for his clowny rampage and myself for wading through a river of torture and depravity. In the end I gotta give it to JSP, it took some balls to hammer through that circus of clown shit just to find a couple notable gems.

Best screenshot – Octo’s entire series from “Fiend Without a Face”

Funniest comment – On my “Rabid” review, 50PageMcGee said...
“so did the doctor surgically implant the armpit anus? didn't any of the other doctors or nurses in the room ask what it was for? AMA advocates must want to shoot themselves when they watch stuff like this.”

Also HM goes to DCD for saying this…”Wait a minute - she doesn't know that she is the one doing this? Is she unaware of her armpit anus?” on the same review.

JPX - 50 P's Serbian Film review? Huzzawhhaaaa???

Catfreeek said...

Yeah, I was wondering about that as well....hmmmm

All-around favorite review – Monsters by Octo, A Serbian Film by JSP, Catfreek and Abduscias, and Teeth by Crystal Math

Funniest review – Mr. Jingles by JSP

Best So Bad It's Good review – 13 Hours in a Warehouse by Crystal Math and The Seamstress by Trevor

Best discovery – I’m awarding that to myself for Lake Mungo, The Tunnel, Troll Hunter, and Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale

Most obscure discovery – Evil Bong by Abduscias or The Hand of Pleasure by Catfreeek

Best coverage of a theme or series – JSP’s killer clown theme

Best screenshot – All of the screenshots in Fiend Without a Face by Octo

Funniest Comment – I am far too lazy to sift through 4000 comments so instead I will say, “You all had your moments, you all have a great sense of humor!”

With all due respect to 50P I was referring to the triadic Serbian film review by 3 of our Thonners as one of my favorite reviews!

Best Screen Shot - the graffiti art in Octo's Monsters review and his description captured my imagination

Most Obscure Discovery - Coffin Joe: Tonight I Will Possess Your Soul

Overall Favorite - Crystal Math's Human Centipede 2 review

Octopunk said...

All-around favorite review: Exhibit A by JPX. Something about the lean yet forboding tone really worked for me. HM to JSP's Human Centipede 2 review.

Funniest review: JSP's Blood Harvest review, cutting and delicious.

Best So Bad It's Good review: Cat's review of Legion: The Last Exorcism. Father Chica Chica Wow Wow!

Best discovery: This goes to Cat for finding Black Sunday in her own brain after reading my vague description of it. These last two years I've been trying to watch weird movies I saw as a kid that I barely remember, and that was a huge player on that list. Thanks, Cat.

Most obscure discovery: I thought JSP's clown-related Let's Visit the World of the Future seemed like it was beamed in from a parallel Earth. HM to Cat/Abby's (because I assumed they watched it together) weird find The Poughkeepsie Tapes.

Best coverage of a theme or series: A lot I want to mention here, like Tami coming in at the end with the Blade series, or Abby scooping up several different franchises (although the one that sticks out for me is the Warlock series), or JPX's discovery of so many found footage movies I started to suspect he was making them himself. But the absolute winner with this one is Johnny's Evil Clown coverage, a chronicle of breadth, depth and wonder. That mosaic of clown headshots says it all.

Best screenshot: DCD's shot of the title card for Burn, Witch, Burn So styly and creepy

Funniest caption: What? I didn't say funniest caption? You know, I meant to, but I forgot. I think I typed "best screenshot" and thought I was typing about captions. Anyway, my vote's for Crystal with this beauty (third image down). If you note the comments it actually disabled me for a full minute. Biggest laugh of Horrorthon for me.

Funniest comment: I'm totally hosed on this one because I had one and now I can't remember what it is. That's not a very good note to finish on...

Oh, I know.

Most asses: Catfreek! Asses aplenty! Asses galore!
