Quint here. It's been no secret that I've been critical of Zombie's approach to his HALLOWEEN remake. In fact, I've heard from many different friends that have friends close to Zombie that he wasn't just annoyed when my script review hit, but in a rage. Understandably, with the reaction he got from the review.
People have taken that review and what I discussed in it to start a volcano of hate, spewing all over "that hack" etc, etc... I said then and I say now, I want Zombie to make a kick-ass HALLOWEEN movie. I think he has it in him. I think his approach is forgetting what made Carpenter's film work and I will continue to think that... My criticism was constructive, intentionally. If I wanted to be mean about it, I could have been. However, what I ultimately want is for him to change my mind come Fall when I can see the finished flick.
I will say this... Tyler Mane as Myers doesn't look half-bad. He's not as bulky as described in the script. I like the way Myers looks walking around. I like the casting of the horror icons... Brad Dourif and Udo Kier and Dee Wallace and Adrienne Barbeau. Malcolm McDowell is looking great as Loomis. I hope I just don't get what Zombie's doing, but I'm afraid I do get it and Zombie just doesn't give a shit.
MTV has video of the Myers house, chats with the cast and a written piece going over some details... one of which is the fact that Zombie has opted to not use John Carpenter's iconic theme in any shape (pardon the pun). That's a curious decision to me... it's like he's stripping everything but the character's names, the mask and the holiday... All this does is make me still wonder why he's remaking HALLOWEEN and not just doing his own original story. But I guess it's better than having to sit through a death metal version of the HALLOWEEN theme...

Quint needs to go to hell and get a life. They're remaking Halloween, get the hell over it. You could do much worse than Rob Zombie. I'd be more worried if John Carpenter was at the helm.
Not using the original music? Get the hell over it. I actually agree with that decision. Once that music is played, you might as well be watching the original.
Ooh, Johnny Sweatpants taking the tough stance!
"I'd be more worried if John Carpenter was at the helm." Excellent!
I'm going to miss the music, though. I think a Zombified Halloween theme would be cool.
Are The Ring, Dawn of the Dead and Texas Chainsaw the only horror remakes worth their celluloid? I'm just getting the feeling that this remake isn't going to get grouped with those in the end.
I agree, I have low expectations but high anticipation, if that makes sense... Nope.
Interesting query about horror remakes. There has to be others, right? On the dud side we have Wicker Man, Omen, Psycho, the Grudge, not to mention the 90's Frankenstein, Wolf, Dracula, and Mummy crappers.
