From darkhorizons, Freddie Kruger himself Robert Englund will direct the dark gothic fantasy "The Vij" says Variety.
Based on an eponymous novel by Russian writer Nikolaj Gogol, it revolves around an evil genie who conditions the actions of a young priest, leading him to commit murder and fall in love with an old witch who is actually not what she seems.
Christopher Lee is attached to star as a God-like character called The Father. Englund himself will appear, as will actress Olga Schuvalova.
Shooting is scheduled to start in April in the Lazio region of Italy, specifically the uninhabited medieval village of Civita di Bagnoregio serving as a key location.
