Steampunkish Vader Mask For Sale On eBay

From geekology, This is a steampunkish Vader helmet some dude made out of an old mask bought from Disney World 14 years ago. It's looking alright. Nothing I'd have on display for every girl that came over to see, but definitely something I'd don in the bedroom for a choice few. The auction includes a chestpiece/respirator (picture after the jump) and currently stands at $22.28 with 2 days and 9 hours remaining. However the reserve has not been met. And you know what else hasn't been met? My soulmate. Well, she's probably been met, just not by me. And knowing that she's out there doing battle with some other Jedi's lightsaber makes me sick to my stomach.

Okay, I must speak up and finally admit that I don't "get" what "steampunk" is. Where does it come from? Is it from a show? Is it a style? Does it come from ancient Egyptians? Help, please!

"Steampunk is a subgenre of fantasy and speculative fiction which came into prominence in the 1980s and early 1990s. The term denotes works set in an era or world where steam power is still widely used—usually the 19th century, and often set in Victorian era England—but with prominent elements of either science fiction or fantasy, such as fictional technological inventions like those found in the works of H. G. Wells and Jules Verne, or real technological developments like the computer occurring at an earlier date."

That's from the Steampunk Wikipedia page. Click for more info.

There is a comic book called Steampunk, but I'm pretty sure the term came first.
