For some reason, more Scooby

Brian Levant ("The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas," "Are We There Yet?") has signed to direct a TV movie prequel to the "Scooby Doo" movies.

A nation-wide casting call is now underway to find the new Fred, Daphne, Velma and Shaggy according to Moviehole.

Daphne's a mystery writer, Fred's a football player, Shaggy is a school dropout; and Velma is a teen U.S ambassador for World Hunger.

All four apply for jobs at the school paper and end up solving their first mystery together. Production begins in August in Vancouver.

Oh good lord. People complained (and still do) when sequels dominated the scene, but sequels were never as obnoxious as prequels. I keep imagining that hated statement "and now we'll find out where that came from" being parroted by another movie executive who's so stupid he's drooling all down his tie.

Daphne's a mystery writer? Please. All Daphne was ever good at was getting taken hostage.
