So Sharon, What Did Iceland Do?

From CNN.com: An earthquake shook southern Iceland on Thursday, reportedly causing injuries and damaging roads and buildings.

The 6.1 magnitude temblor struck about 3:46 p.m. (11:46 a.m. ET), according to the U.S. Geological Survey. Its epicenter was about 50 km (31 miles) east-southeast of the capital, Reykjavik, and was about 10 km (6.2 miles) below the Earth's surface.

It was unclear exactly how many people were injured or the severity of their injuries, Olli Tynes, a journalist with Reykjavik's Channel 2, told CNN.

A hospital in a town near the epicenter was also reported damaged, and some wings have had to be evacuated, he said.

There were no reports of fatalities, but "great material damage," Tynes said. Roads and bridges in the area have been closed.

Iceland's emergency management agency has swung into action, and rescue crews were headed to the area most affected by the quake.

Tynes said he has been speaking to residents of the towns closest to the epicenter. "They said they thought the world was coming to an end," he said. "They thought they were going to

Bwhaahaha Saw this blog by clicking on blogs on CNN.com Ok first of all I have to say.. I'm from Iceland.. I was not far from the epicenter... I laugh cos I thought the comment about milk shakes was freakin hilarious. I can do so cos A: luckily nobody got seriously injured seriously.. And B: cos I'm from Iceland.. we have never been easily offended and can take jokes... specially black comedy ;)

I've been playing AC/DC repeatedly tonight... "You shook me all night long" =P

And P.S. thanks for the tip I'll keep the ice cream and milk shake tip in mind the next time I'm in a major earthquake. And maybe whiskey on the rocks to go with it...

And extra P.S. c'mon don't get to upset about Sharon, she's just in need of attention... I mean she's getting pretty old and there is only so much botox can do... she's probably bitter cos she hasn't got laid in a decade or so... I'd still do her though =P

Cheers

Like Hasselhoff and Germany, Jerry Lewis and France, the people of Iceland just get me. Now if I could just write an hours worth of material about Geothermic energy I'd own that island!

First Belgium, now Iceland. Horrorthon is sooo internacional.

Glad to see Bjork wasn't hurt. Uh, I mean "anyone." Glad to see anyone wasn't hurt. What?

Anyway, thanks Stefan!

Hahaha... hmm... yeah "anyone"... well just maybe it would have done the world a favor if she would... it's a mystery to most Icelanders how in the name of jumping horse shit she got to be so famous by acting like an christmas elf high on magic mushrooms... btw we had jumping horse shit yesterday...

But if the earth would have magically opened up and taken Bjork from us at least then we would have Sigur Ros to play at her funeral =P

Cheers

Ah, see -- that's why it's important to reach out to other cultures: for years we thought all you Icelanders were magic mushroom Christmas elves.

If Bjork gets eaten by the Jaguar Shark from Life Aquatic then we could get weepy to Staralfur... it's all coming full circle.

Man I gotta go to sleep.

Okay, "in the name of jumping horse shit" is my new favorite English expression. Thanks, Iceland!

Running Freak and I went to Iceland (then Amsterdam, heh heh) on our honeymoon. Iceland was like visiting another planet and the sun never set. Everywhere we went we were surrounded by breathtaking beauty. Amsterdam was another planet too but in a different way.

I have no idea how the Icelandic people survive the winters with no sunlight though. Does everyone turn into vampires and/or frothing zombies?

I love Sigur Ros. When the hell are they going to put out a proper new album?
