Got me an iPhone, bitches!

Okay, I know I'm not the only 'thonner with an iPhone, but I felt like gloating. It's actually a money saving move, because I've abandoned my old cell phone and jumped onto Julie's account, which will save us about sixty bucks a month going forward. The phone was 80% off, too, since it's one of those "JOIN US" bonuses (although I still had to pay sales tax on the whole price, isn't that weird?).

I've barely delved into this thing's possibilities and I'm having a lot of fun. It also means my phone number is different, and it's possible I haven't contacted those of you who have my old one. But I will.

I hated explaining that tax thing when I was working for Cingular. Especially to old folks, they just never get it.

Here's some Must-Have Apps:

iSaber (it may be called something different now, but the screen lights up like a lightsaber, and when you wave it around, the accelerometer makes the appropriate snap-hiss, humming, and crashing sounds. It is indescribably awesome.)

Star Wars FX (Jabba's laugh, TIE fighter going by, Blaster, Yoda's laugh, and so on and so on...)

Shazam (it's the closest thing to magic I've ever seen)

Parking Lot
Paper Toss (two HUGELY addictive simple games)

iPity (Mr. T sound bites. Good for any occasion)

The only real problem is AT& fucking T. I do get a lot of dropped calls, and the signal is sometimes weaker than a JSP haiku. (daaaaaaay-um!) But the trade-off is the coolest and most useful piece of technology ever. I can post haikus on Horrorthon while standing on a set in a forest. And check email. And play Galaga.

But the phone itself just makes me feel smugly cool. It's the greatest thing ever.

Oh, and get the Google App too. You can literally just say what you want to search for and the results pop up.

Welcome to the future, Octo. It's better here!

(That pic is HILARIOUS.)

Oh, and I also figured out a way through both iTunes and Garage Band to make my phone, when it rings, either breathe like Darth Vader or make the "transform up - transform down" sound from the 80s TF cartoon.

Yep.

Good call on the apps Stan and omg I lolled "I do get a lot of dropped calls, and the signal is sometimes weaker than a JSP haiku." lol

There really is an app for just about anything.

I use a 4 track recording app to capture multitrack recording on the fly, theres a great app for making music by Brian Eno and I would check out a couple games that really rock for cheap, Field Runners and geo defense. Of course it has so many apps on it now that the kids like playing I don't see it much.

Welcome to the party, pal!

I've got the original (aluminum-backed) iPhone so I can't do all that voice stuff, and I don't have a compass. But it's still the best thing since corn in a can.

I concur that Shazam is awesome. I also like tChess, Shakespeare (like, all of it in one app) and PhoneSaber, with which I could totally defeat Anakin if I had a chance.
