Have you guys listened to the "Love" record? That's some amazing shit. They've fed all the Beatles multitrack masters into ProTools and made remixes. A different project from the Remasters; kind of the opposite, but also amazing.

I love Love. That was where I first heard the song What You're Doing which prompted me to pick up the Beatles For Sale album which is now one of my favorites.
Beatles For Sale is a fucking masterpiece...but then, the only thing better than a Beatles record is the next Beatles record. It blows my mind that there are still people who aren't totally familiar with all 13 albums and all 226 songs...in fact, I envy them, because it means that there's still new Beatles music that they haven't heard yet. (It's like meeting people who haven't seen The Godfather.)
When I "got a hold of" the stereo remaster box, I started at the very beginning and listened to the whole damn thing straight through, very loud. It would have been even more amazing if I wasn't already so familiar with, like, every note.
The progression from 1963 to 1970 is something I'm particularly learning to appreciate now that I'm older and know more about music and about that decade. When I was younger, I was less interested in "the early stuff," but now, I can attempt to vicariously progress through the records and imagine how each one must have sounded as it came out. "Please Please Me" was back when Billboard's top five were all Beatles songs (imagine that!) but nobody could have predicted how much better "With The Beatles" would be...which pales beside "Beatles for Sale"...which, of course, is totally trumped by the two soundtracks ("Hard Day's Night," "Help!") and that's not even the "good stuff"...the incredible progression from "Rubber Soul" to "Revolver" to "Pepper" to "Mystery Tour" to "White Album" (which is my favorite).
It's interesting to read about other bands in the sixties (Beach Boys, Donovan, Rolling Stones, Bread etc.) who kept getting depressed whenever a new Beatles record came out because just when you'd finally adjusted to the jealousy and forced yourself to get better yourself, the Beatles would put out a new record and it was game over yet again. Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys famously "officially gave up" on competing with the Beatles after the first time he heard Sgt. Pepper. (That record came out on a Friday, and, on that Sunday Night, Hendrix covered the title song in concert.)
I ddin't know Hendrix covered Sgt. Peppers. Is there a recording of it?
Please Please Me and Past Masters Vol. 1 are the only 2 missing in my collection. Been meaning to pick them up for years..
