sounds great! how was the venue?
my only 80s-ish show this summer is the true colors tour (b52s, cyndi lauper, the cliks, & regina spektor, with rosie o'donnell and carson kressley hosting); otherwise it's mostly oldies but cheesies (chicago/doobie brothers, the zombies, csn, jethro tull, and journey/heart/cheap trick).
once the dandy warhols get around to posting more summer tour dates i can add a relatively contemporary band to the lineup. hopefully we can have a strong horrothon presence at their new england shows!
Cool, AC! The venue was very nice but the seats were very small and very close together. I parked near Fenway, which was painless. There's really not a bad seat in the venue as it's not all that large.
Count me in for The Dandy Warhols this fall!
JPX, am I to understand that you've finally figured out how to upload pitctures from your camera?
(Whirlygirl did it for you, didn't she?)
I'll never tell!
But, but....I am sputtering with envy!!
How did I not know!?!?! Maybe I did know, how long ago did you get those tix?
Argh! My favorite band ever!! And wait a minute - what is this about Duran Duran??
No seriously, is that picture from your camera?
To call the Cure an 80's band is almost an insult as they've been steadily cranking out music since the late 70's. Duran Duran - definitely, but not the Cure.
That's cool, they may not be my favorite but I really respect that they vary the set list every night unlike most lazy bands.
Excellent! I never see enough live music.
Random notes:
A friend of mine has directed a couple of Regina Spektor videos. Until I looked at his reel I'd never heard of her.
While The Cure transcend the actual decade of the 80's (in both chronological directions), I think it makes perfect sense to call them an 80's band. Their rise to power was completely immersed in the 80's music scene, a scene with a distinct personality that is still resonates quite loudly -- both because the original music still gets played and because newer bands recapture the sound. Including the Dandys, of course. Uh... so there.
Hmm. I really don't see any Cure in the Dandy Warhols. I think the Dandys came from a short lived poppy-post-grunge scene (that also spawned Weezer). To me they sound a lot like the Jesus & Mary Chain and Love and Rockets. I also always assumed that their layered druggy vocals were nicked from Alice in Chains (though the attitude is more detached stoner non-chalance vs. angry sick junkie.)
I actually like The Cure's 90's albums more because they're more lush and full bodied. I hear their echoes a lot in bands like Interpol, the Rapture and (gag me) the Bravery.
We should talk about music more here. Maybe dedicate Fridays to the subject...
And JPX - enough's enough - where did that picture come from?
i second the "music fridays" motion.
our dandys didn't vary their set list much when they last toured, which dampens my motivation to see multiple shows when they tour this year.
I downloaded the 2 new Cure songs off ITunes last night and they're both pretty damn catchy.
Cool! "New York Trip" is a b-side. I've heard 5 cuts from the upcoming album and I like them all. He's going for a more upbeat-type album this time around.
