So when is Tron Legacy coming out?

From worstpreviews, Walt Disney Pictures has now scheduled "Tron Legacy" to appear in theaters on December 17th, 2010. It is now set to go head-to-head with "The Smurfs," "Yogi Bear" and "The Green Hornet."

"Tron Legacy" is directed by Joseph Kosinski and stars Jeff Bridges, Garrett Hedlund, Olivia Wilde, Bruce Boxleitner, James Frain, Beau Garrett and Michael Sheen. Check out the concept trailer here.

Plot: Sam Flynn (Hedlund), the tech-savvy 27-year-old son of Kevin Flynn (Bridges), looks into his father's disappearance and finds himself pulled into the same world of fierce programs and gladiatorial games where his father has been living for 25 years. Along with Kevin's loyal confidant (Wilde), father and son embark on a life-and-death journey across a visually-stunning cyber universe that has become far more advanced and exceedingly dangerous.

Tron 2 could go up against "Jesus: He's Back! In 3-D! On IMAX" and STILL kick the shit out of it. I CANNOT wait for this.

Tron is another movie that I just don't get the appeal of. Admittedly I just saw it once, but I just thought it was really stupid.

"Stupid" in its execution! The basic idea is brilliant, ahead of its time...and is obviously the forerunner for The Matrix. But Tron's still lame, in my opinion.

I love Tron. There is a lot of goofiness, but it's got a fantastic setting and action scenes with pitch perfect rhythm and punch. That's enough to earn it the fan base that it's got.

Two words. Light. Cycles.

The light cycles were designed by Syd Mead, indutrial illustrator turned "Visual Futurist" who designed the Spinners for Blade Runner and a bunch of other great vehicles and props. (He did the Soviet spacecraft for 2010 also, but hey, nobody's perfect.)

Tron hit me the same way that Transformers did 25 years later (albeit not to the same degree). There's cool technology involved in fights or chases or both, but the underlying story premises are so clumsy and juvenile that I just can't get past them and I spend the whole movie going "Yeah, that looked cool...but this whole thing is SO DUMB!" over and over.

I hear ya Jordan. But I first watched Tron at such a tender age and it could do no wrong. I can still enjoy it on the childhood level. Fingers crossed for the sequel..
