A remake is spawned

From bloodydisgusting, "Gigantic news this evening as IESB has reported that Alexandre Aja (High Tension, The Hills Have Eyes) will helm Dimension's remake of Piranha. Chuck Russell, who wrote the screenplay, was originally attached to direct.

More news as it comes in, watch for an official announcement soon! Piranha was a Jaws spoof directed by Joe Dante and produced by Roger Corman in 1978. Universal Studios tried to stop the film from being released (because of its satirizing of Universal's Jaws films), but Steven Spielberg saw the film in advance and liked it. There was a sequel - Piranha II: The Spawning, which was the directorial debut of one James Cameron."

This is great! A property nobody really cares about handled by a contemporary goremaster -- it's just like Hills Have Eyes, and I think you'll agree that worked out for the best.

I count ourselves lucky that Aja likes cheesy old horror flicks as much as we do.

screw that. when are they remaking piranah 2? lance henriksen is old enough to play the town drunk that nobody listens to but turns out to be right in the end and is also eaten third while he's staggering around drunk on the dock and accidentally pees on his mangy dog and is in the process of apologizing to the poor mutt.
