Zombie making Halloween sequel

From filmstalker, Rob Zombie is directing the sequel to Halloween, it's official. After remaking the first Halloween he's decided to make the sequel and, as predicted, he's not planning on remaking the second film.

The Halloween sequel also has a title apparently, H2.

Yeah, I didn't like that either, but it's early days and at least it's not called H2.0 as so many titles are apt to be called these days. Initialise it and throw in a version number, that'll mean we're modern.

Anyway, title aside, as it's early days and that can change through development, Rob Zombie is seemingly on for the remake, and Variety have a quote from the writer/director about why it's taken so long for him to get back to it:

“I was so burned out. (But) I took a long break, made a record and I got excited again...Now, we'll be hauling ass, and that's the problem making a movie called 'Halloween': If you come out Nov. 1 or after, nobody cares. If it was called anything else, I'd be fine.”

So he's back for the sequel, but what's interesting is that the film will be starting right as the first Zombie Halloween ended and will not be a remake of the original Halloween sequel, instead Zombie will be taking the franchise in his own direction.

The story will follow the aftermath of Michael Myers' rampage as seen through the eyes of his sister, the focus of his hunt in the first film, and perhaps the focus in the second, who knows now that Zombie is intending to make it his way.

It's funny though, apparently Rob Zombie had told Bob Weinstein that he wanted nothing to do with a sequel, that would be a sequel to a remake that he said he would never make and believed were pointless and rubbish.

I guess at the end of the day the money and creative package were the incentive. Perhaps the fact that he's now allowed to make his own story is what lured him back.
