Groan, True Lies II next year?

From filmstalker, Tom Arnold has been pitching the idea of a sequel for some time, and back in January he said that Arnold Schwarzenegger was keen on the idea once he left politics, well now he's saying that the film is definitely on and begins as soon as Arnie's free.

Now he's been touting the idea of a second film for a long time, and saying that Arnie is interested despite the big man's press saying otherwise. However we do know that a little while ago Arnie's team started looking for projects for him to do as soon as he was out of office. Could this really be it?

Or, is Tom Arnold merely touting the idea once again in the hope that James Cameron and Arnold Schwarzenegger both like it and get together?

I don't know, but this latest comment from Arnold does suggest that the film is a lot more concrete than we first thought.

”All I know is Jim Cameron’s making it and Arnold” — Mr. Schwarzenegger — “and I are going to be in it, and it starts shooting in 14 months, the day after Arnold stops being governor of California...It’s not going to be called ‘True Lies II,’ but it might as well be. I can live with that.”
Hold up though, it's coming up in fourteen months to start filming and the big part of this story from The New York Times through MTV is that the plot hasn't been decided and there's no script. That's going to be a bit of a rush isn't it?

I'm not sure, I can't quite get my head around the fact that Cameron is so busy with Avatar that he's going to come out to a project that doesn't have a plot idea or a script yet, and it's due to start filming in just over a year.

Saying that, I could see that both Arnold and Schwarzenegger would sign up to a Cameron film without any of these, I mean just look at how good True Lies was.

Back in January Tom Arnold said:

“If all goes as planned, the day Arnold leaves office, we will again team with Jim Cameron and do a comedy. Jim says it might not be called True Lies II, but it will be fun.”

I don't know. Could this really be true and could it all be in place on the strength of True Lies and James Cameron alone? I would have thought a plot at least would have been found never mind a writer who had begun on the script. Mind you, True Lies was superb.

True Lies was not superb! Fuck!

Years later I'm still irate that anyone likes that movie. Idiots!

My assumption on this bit of news is that Tom Arnold is full of crap.
