Young children, with really crappy parents, can rest a little easier tonight.

I wonder if he'll come back as a freaky dancing zombie.

This is really huge news. Probably, the most iconic death since Elvis.

His old stuff is awesome.

I have to admit that Thriller is one of the best albums of all time.

Off the Wall is a fantastic album too.

It is huge and I did like his old stuff as well. I still remember the big MTV premier of the Thriller video it was just the coolest thing.

Too bad he had to turn himself into such a freak of nature. All that surgery and such probably weakened his heart.

If he comes back as a zombie, none of his face will have decayed.

A huge weirdo but an amazing talent. It can't be easy to peak in 1985.

With one white-gloved hand, I wipe away a single tear.

I had the glove, the sunglasses, the pants, and the zippered jacket. I even appeared in a family photo in 1985 wearing said jacket.

I always felt cooler in it.

Sorry, I don't care if you cured Cancer, once you start fucking with kids...it undoes anything good you may have done prior or after.

This photo needs to be posted post haste!

Miko, I couldn't agree with you more.

Oh Mr. Handsome Stan I swear I would pay to see that photo.

I would kick in some money to see that H. Stan pic!

Octo beat me to it. If he were a Jedi, his ghost would have his original face, but 50 years old.

Weird news. It is a big one, probably the biggest since Elvis, as JSP said. And Elvis was a mad freaker, too. Talented people are sometimes awfully weird.

Biggest news since Elvis? I think John Lennon's death/murder probably beats it.

Steven Spielberg has released this statement about the death of Michael Jackson exclusively to EW:

"Just as there will never be another Fred Astaire or Chuck Berry or Elvis Presley, there will never be anyone comparable to Michael Jackson. His talent, his wonderment and his mystery make him legend."

Well! Now we know how to make accusations of child molestation disappear. Sell a bajillion albums and then die.

Late to the party. But I can't believe no one has thrown any conspiracy theories out there!

Come on! He's not dead! He's finally going to get a sex change operation and live in a sweet condo in Boca.

my personal conspiricy theory de jour is a suicide + coverup. if the allegations of molestation were true, his own children are now entering that special target age- how hard would that be to live with?

i agree his early music was genius.

Re: Michael vs. John Lennon. John Lennon (as a solo artist) did not sell nearly as many albums and one could argue that his career was bordering on irrelevance when he died. The only musician whose death could possibly eclipse this is Bob Dylan.

Miko, I understand what you're saying but keep in mind that Michael was also a victim of child abuse. He was denied a childhood by insane, greedy parents and spent the remainder of his life trying to recapture his innocence. Can I get an AC or a JPX to back me up on this one?

I never actually took Michael Jackson seriously until the past year. Several of my friends are really into him and their enthusiasm rubbed off on me.

I'm not sure why I can overlook MJ's tabloid life and still enjoy his music when I can no longer listen to Beck after learning that he's a Scientologist. Perhaps I'm just a hypocrite.
