Left Bank

(2008)***

This Belgian film has a subtle build reminiscent of Rosemary's Baby. We first meet Marie and Bob, a happy healthy young couple who seem to have life by the balls. Marie is a track star training for a big race. She meets Bob, they fall in love and she moves in with him. At first everything is sunshine and lollipops and a whole lot of sex. While running one day Marie injures her knee. At first it seems pretty minor, her doctor isn't too concerned. Oh but it keeps progressing, becoming more bruised and swollen. As the days go by it seems not only her knee is getting uglier but her whole world is growing darker. As the film trudges forward it keeps getting eerier, more sinister and unbelievably strange. I really can't get into what happens following the knee injury without giving too much away, trust me it's really strange.

This is just the beginning, it gets far more gross

I'll just say that things go beyond weird after a certain point and it involves this bizarre little hole.

The movie ends with a twist that completely threw me off. When it was all said and done I was left staring at the end credits dumbfounded. If you're into weird, then this flick is right up your alley.

This sounds great and reminds me of the film Whirlygirl recently reviewed, "In My Skin", which is unbearably cringe-worthy.

Nice review Catfreeek! It intrigued me enough to want to know what the hell is going on.

Well after you watch it I think we should discuss what the hell happened.

Yeah, two movies dedicated to weird wounds. Weird.

And is she in that little hole in the first shot? That's so funny. It's like Doonesbury's Walden puddle!

I never get tired of saying this: awesome find, Cat.
