I couldn't bring myself to watch this. Just the peppy intro with Matt Lauer put me off.
That article's interesting. I had no idea L. Ron Hubbard was such a nut. I've heard a rumor (probably untrue, but Snopes was no help) that Hubbard created Scientology on a bet with Robert Heinlein, a bet that he could create a new religion. So I've always held this notion that Scientology just ran away from him. Not true, apparently.
