Who the hell would want to see this?

I can see it right now - Harvey Fierstein as Dr. Octopus singing a tear-jerking song about having eight limbs.

Reuters reports that Marvel Studios is lining up a Broadway musical about the popular superhero with readings scheduled to take place this Summer. Tony winning "The Lion King" stage director Julie Taymor has been enlisted to handle the production and U2's Bono and the Edge will create new music and lyrics for the project.

Current Marvel chairman David Maisel is no stranger to musical theatre, having spearheaded the 1999 best musical Tony winner "Fosse."No dates for a Broadway opening have been set. The musical marks the first time a Marvel character has been the subject of a Broadway show.

Oh man. What the--? Who thought--? I mean, really...

So I'm ambivalent about the remake trend, but this one I'm completely opposed to. A Spider-man musical? Truly that's something from a Simpsons episode and not actually being considered for real life. Come on!
