New Star Wars Webdoc Warns Clones Are Coming

From cinemablend, I’m not seeing the same ferver surrounding Star Wars: Clone Wars. I don’t know if Star Wars fans have finally thrown up their hands in frustrations or if it’s just that an animated adventure doesn’t have the same draw as the live action movies, but people just don’t seem as interested. While I have to admit my interest isn’t as high as it was for the live action movies, I am looking forward to seeing Clone Wars in theatres.

The people at Lucasfilm want you to care about their characters. That seems to be the idea behind the latest webdoc, peeking behind the scenes of Clone Wars to give viewers an idea of the creative process behind the movie. Director Dave Filoni talks about the contrast of the clone troopers in Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith and the customization viewers started to see in the trooper armor. Filoni and the Clone Wars crew put that same mentality into their animated flick, giving the troopers customized armor, haircuts, and battle scars.

The result, at least the result Filoni hopes for, is an individuality that makes the audience cares for the characters instead of just viewing them as identical stormtroopers. That individuality comes from the jedi, Filoni says, and so clone troopers are affected by the jedi they hang out with.

I actually think Filoni has a pretty good idea. Now whether it heightens tension by seeing these characters on the battlefield? We’ll have to wait and see once the final movie comes out. For now, head over to Star Wars.com and check out the latest webdoc, “The Clones are Coming.”
