Dante's Inferno

(2010) **1/2

Dante travels through the nine circles of hell fighting his inner demons come to life. He must rescue Beatrice, his true love, from the deepest sector of hell where Lucifer is holding her captive.

This is another full length animated offshoot film promoting the video game. It was pretty enjoyable, the animation was bold and exciting. There were some twists added to the classic story that worked as well. I would have liked to rate it higher but even with the maturity and edginess of the dialog it still felt a bit like watching a Saturday morning cartoon. As animated horror goes this is not a bad choice to watch but you could do better.

After I read your first sentence I thought to myself, "This sounds like the plot of a video game". I laughed when you confirmed that in the very next sentence. I'm torn over animated horror. On the one hand it's cool to look at but on the other hand I can't imagine you would ever experience and true "scares". I'm glad you're covering this sub-genre of horror.

I haven't found any true scares yet. I actually prefer anime horror, Wicked City is one of the best I've seen. Still, this stuff is out there and I felt like it shouldn't be ignored.

On an unrelated note, those of you who have not yet caught the two mini series Zombie Roadkill and Lifeless on Fearnet do it before they go away. Great stuff!

I didn't realize that there is so much animated horror.

Me neither! I think it's a pretty new phenomenon. Cat, have you watched any animated horror flicks that are more than a few years old? I'm too lazy to check.

Great pick on this one. I'm amused that Dante is portrayed as this big ol' badass instead of an old man in a robe.

I watched another rendition of Dante's Inferno over the summer with Paul Zaloom(Beakman's World)as Lucifer's voice and it was so much better. That was a 2007 film. I haven't watched any that are very old but I'm still rooting around for more of them.
