Doghouse

(2009)**1/2

A group of friends take their depressed friend Vince for a holiday to his quaint little hometown village to try to help him get over a bad breakup. This sudden trip put the rest of the fellas in the proverbial doghouse(hence the film title) with their better halves as well. Determined to have fun, they arrive in town only to find that things are not quite right there. All the women are infected with a bizarre virus that turns them into man hating cannibalistic psycho bitches. The holiday turns into a fight for their lives.

This British dark comedy had a whole bunch of potential but ultimately fell flat on its face. What starts off as an original idea becomes lost in the annoying personalities of the players involved. Some of their actions are so maddening that I actually found myself yelling at the tv. With a swarm of deadly she bitches surrounding their vehicle, one of the guys decides he needs to stand there and make a long speech. I wanted to punch that bastard right in the gut. That's just one example of the roiling frustration this film caused me. What tries to have the charm and intelligence of Shaun of the Dead winds up being an irritating failure with an ending that's more pathetic than an odorless fart. One of the biggest disappointments I watched this year.

Odorless farts aren't without their value. They still sound funny and the smell won't cause a ruckus.

Too bad about the movie. I can't remember the last time I was disappointed in a new British horror flick.

I was really upset about it too, the film had all the components to make a great flick, they just blew it.
