Live Action Star Blazers, for real!

When I asked HandsomeStan if his new avatar was Captain Avatar from the live action Star Blazers, I was actually kidding. But there is one! Or there will be, in December. In Japan.

Now that it's real, I totally want one of those jackets.

In its country of origin, this show is called Space Battleship Yamato, and I've had all three seasons in my Netflix queue for some time now, although I keep putting stuff in front of it. Since it was a serial and I never managed to catch every episode (and this was the time when if you missed it, well fuck you), I'm looking forward to poring over it at length someday. If nothing else, there are some great spaceship designs.
Here's the teaser trailer, or if you want, watch it on Youtube.

I can't wait to show this to Tony, he has been slowly chipping away at the shows seasons on the instant watch Roku box we have. He loved this show.

I totally forgot that there was latent interest in Star Blazers on this blog. I always just figure that, out of any given room I walk into, I am the ONE and ONLY diehard SB/Yamato freak in the room.

Not so in this room. I should have posted this when I saw it a week ago. Well done, Octo. I couldn't agree more on wanting one of those jackets. $1000. I don't care what they're asking.

Octo, my personal fave ship has always been the Andromeda (2nd from right on top). As a kid, the idea of TWO Wave Motion Guns was just so impossibly awesome.

I've got five scripts that I've written that translate the first series (Quest for Iscandar) and the second series (Comet Empire) into a trilogy and a two-fer, respectively.

From this trailer, I'm almost glad I haven't yet realized my lifelong dream of bringing it to life on screen with Americans. It belongs to Japan in a way that no American remake could ever capture; the honorable death of the original battleship Yamato against the overwhelming might of the evil American carrier fleet is something that just does not weave into our national character. The samurai spirit, the notion of dying honorably in battle against insurmountable odds - it's just a wholly Japanese story...

After seeing the trailer with Japanese people in the costumes, I just shudder to think of Ashton Kutcher piloting a Black Tiger, or Dawson's Creek firing the Wave Motion Gun.

Here's a link to the just-released ANIMATED Yamato: Rebirth, set 20 years after the events of Final Yamato, the movie. Between this and the trailer Octo posted, I'm on overload.

Puffinslayer's a huge whore for the series, too - where's he been?

I probably mentioned this somewhere before, but I also have an mp3 of the Wave Motion Gun sound effect on my iPod, which is great for blasting from your car as you speed away as the light turns green.

* fingers crossed *

C;mon, Whirlygirl..."Star Blazers" as the topic tomorrow! Yay!

Puffinslayer got engaged, R.I.P.

Stan - 5 scripts?! I only knew of the first one (which was awesome by the way.)

Whirlygirl - You had better not screw up HHD tomorrow!

Octopunk - have you heard the new Massive Attack album? Any good?

JPX - you smell.

So I tried to find a place where you nuts could buy a jacket and all I came across was about a dozen other geek sites with members writing, "I want that jacket!" So, if there is any order to supply & demand you may see it on the market at some point. Really funny.
