The Warwick Mall is under water

I've sent some articles to West Coast Rhode Islanders about the terrible floods we're having here this week. I haven't received a single response so I thought I'd post some video footage to show how bad things are at the moment. When the lead story on NBC news is about Cranston, RI you know something significant is happening here. According to one article a flood like this occurs in Rhode Island every 100-500 years. Like the Blizzard of '78 this will most likely be referred to as the Flood of 2010. Do yourself a favor, turn off the sound so you don't have to listen to the annoying woman narrate. The footage is pretty amazing though. Currently you can't get anywhere near this area and portions of 95 remain completely closed.

When I got up on Tues morning our entire downstairs living room was under water. About 4-5 inches worth. Luckily, the only electronics we lost was the VCR. Which was full of water. It's a complete suck-fest. Water's all gone now, but it stinks down there like a YMCA.

I was watching the weather channel last night and Cranston, RI was picked by one of the meteorologists as the place with the "worst weather of the day."

Be careful DCD if you get mold down there you can get really sick.

Worse than the mall is the fact that the Warwick sewage treatment plant is under water. That means shit leakage floating through the city.

My sister is trapped in Rehoboth, all roads to her house are wrecked. Four bridges were swept away by rushing water. The Grist Mill is under water as well.

If anyone wants to see the damage as a whole, the most thorough video I have found can be seen here

DCD, I'm so sorry to hear about your flood damage! How did you get the water out of there? My sump pump has been humming away non-stop for days now.

Who the hell still uses a VCR?

Hey! I will have you know we use our VCR on a regular basis actually. Kids movies.

Anyhoots. Yeah, it was a mess. A mess that did include some sewage back-up. We need to get a company in to do a deep clean now.

Still, it could have been worse...

Yikes! So sorry you guys dealing with that. We're very lucky, no water in the basement or anything.

Good thing the Toy Vault is on the 2nd floor!

Wow, I hadn't responded because I didn't think it was that big a deal. (That's how I remember the east coast weather being all the time.) But damn, that's insane!

In case you were wondering, the weather here is far from perfect. I can see a couple of clouds on the horizon that may block the sun for a few minutes later on today.

The National Guard are here and 95 is closed down. This is a huge disaster. Watch the video, it will blow your mind.

Yeah...(yawn, stretch). We don't care.

I'm kidding, of course. I hope everyone stays safe. It is hard to relate from out here; it's already too hot for a jacket during midday (although at night it still gets down to the 50s, brrr!).

Don't worry. If there's a big quake you guys can mock us from atop your stable tectonic plates.

JPX - please tell me your pump is working fine and that your toys and records are unscathed!

I was going to mention The Toy Vault, but I couldn't figure out how to not sound insensitive. I knew JSP would figure it out.

My parents' basement has been flooding on a daily basis. The losses so far: about ten kickass framed movie posters.

I can't believe the 95 thing. Crazy. Hope everyone pulls through ok.

Today in New York City, it was officially First Awesome Weather Day Where We Start To Notice Women Again After Five Long Months Of Puffy Winter Coats. There's always one day each year that you can pinpoint as the official start to spring. ("Wow! Legs! Midriffs!" etc.)

Damn it, HandsomeStan, when the hell are we going to meet up? I was out enjoying the NYC weather too. Email me! mail@jordanorlando.com

I am totally emailing you. I know the blog is sick and tired of our bromance.

But i knew YOU would know what I'm talking about. Every year, there's That One Day. Holy shit, there's women in our city. It's like they were hibernating or something. Fuck solstices our calendars, that's the TRUE start of springtime. That One Day. Happens every year.

Truth be told, we were actually shooting in Newark, at the Hilton Hotel at Penn Station.

But I knew it was That Day. You can smell it, feel it.

I can't say that the passing female pedestrian quotient rivaled that of NYC on this day (depending on the neighborhood), but still, it was In The Air. That First Day.

Even f'n Newark had some stuff going on. Not great stuff, mind you, but it was certainly a distant, hollow harkening to the brilliance going on in NYC.

Very symbolic.
