Near Dark remake in the works?

From Bloodydisgusting, "It was revealed yesterday that newcomer Matt Venne will pen the script for Rogue Pictures' remake of the cult classic vampire film Near Dark, according to Dread Central. Today Fangoria got word from Venne, who wrote White Noise 2, which is currently shooting in Vancouver, “The film is a gritty look at the life of this small group of people trekking through the Southwest—who also happen to be vampires. In combination with that realistic approach, though, there are images in the original film and in Eric Red and Kathryn Bigelow’s screenplay that are absolutely beautiful. Completely dreamy and captivating. Pure poetry. It’s an incredible project, and I’m honored to be writing it.” Click the link below for the full story. In the original a young man reluctantly joins a travelling "family" of evil vampires, when the girl he'd tried to seduce is part of that group."

Now this is just plain silly. They should just rerelease the first one; there's no way the remake will touch it.

I don't think 20 years is long enough hang time before a remake is made.
