EW ranks best sci-fi ever

From syfyportal, It might not be at the top of the ratings, but when it comes to television shows, SciFi Channel's "Battlestar Galactica" is tops with Entertainment Weekly.

The magazine is releasing its top 25 science-fiction television shows and movies Monday, with the 1999 blockbuster hit "The Matrix" finishing first overall. However, a close second is the Ronald D. Moore-run BSG which has been a darling to the critics, but struggled to get anything more than a strong cult following on the cable channel.

The series may not have beaten Neo and his cyberlife, but it did finish ahead of another cult classic that also featured Edward James Olmos, 1982's "Blade Runner."

"The X-Files" also was in the top five, finishing at No. 4, just ahead of "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan."

Rounding out the top 10 were "Brazil," "E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial," "Star Trek: The Next Generation," "Aliens" and "The Thing."

"Heroes" is still pretty new on NBC, but it also made the list, coming in at No. 18. But don't think Entertainment Weekly has no love for the show that is a cross between The X-Men and "The 4400." The magazine will feature cast members on five separate covers this month.
