People are dying to see this

From IESB, "Industry pundits predict that the summer 2007 movies could be the biggest ever in history, and based on blogosphere buzz, Live Free or Die Hard looks to be the sleeper hit of the expected summer smashes.

According to a recent Nielsen BuzzMetrics report, Live Free or Die Hard, opening June 27, had nearly twice as many blog mentions from January 1-April 22 as “Spider-Man 3,” its closest competitor on the report. (19,100 mentions for Live Free or Die Hard versus “Spider-Man 3’s” 10, 500 mentions). Live Free or Die Hard’s blog popularity also dwarfs the expected summer blockbusters “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” (5,700 mentions), “Shrek the Third” (6, 200 mentions) and “Transformers” (8,200 mentions).

Live Free or Die Hard’s impressive blogosphere numbers are in no small part due to the film’s trailer, which became one of the highest-testing trailers in Twentieth Century Fox history. After premiering exclusively on Yahoo! the trailer showed up on YouTube – and dominated the Web days before the trailer debuted in theaters.

I’m not super surprised; the Die Hard franchise is 2 outta 3 for Total Awesomeness and its presence definitely has the feel of an old pro coming back to a game recently dominated by imperfect upstarts.

On the other hand, Grindhouse and Snakes on a Plane have certainly proven that internet buzz does not equal dollas.

This is a different kind of internet "buzz," I think.

The preview looks totally fantastic except for two things:

1) I didn't see the Underworld movies so I don't know if I can trust this director. (I would have preferred McTiernan again, since he did such a good job with 1 and 3, which, by the way, are in markedly different styles.)

2) McClane's a little too full of himself in the trailer. Every joke is about how great he is. We all know Bruce Willis is an egomaniac, but McClane's always been pleasantly self-effacing.
