Finish It Friday: Captain Zoom Escapes Certain Death!!!

I realize that what I gave to everyone was burdensome and heavy-handed - there was a lot of backstory to wade through just for a simple short story exercise. However, I'd do it all again in a heartbeat - what people came up with was absolutely incredible. Ahem. Two people. What I read was of course, to beat down an overused word here - brilliant.

Octo-Cross-Evil Arm: I loved your entry. I felt the same way I did when I was watching Superman II or Empire or Khan: here's a completely worthy, kick-ass follow-up to a relatively shaky opening story. Solid from start to finish, with an eye to reinventing the franchise and turning it on its head. Genius from start to finish, and as I said in my Comments, when this thing becomes a produced work, I hope to credit you, involve you and employ you as a full-time writer.

Your entry was so good it has inspired, in another Horrorthon first, more original Handsome Stan artwork. I drew this after reading your entry, and it could be Zooma or Zoomina, flip a coin, but the important thing is that you inspired me after I inspired you. Sweatpants can attest to the difficulty of getting me to actually get my pencil working, and to finding the moment when it can create something special. Here you go, my gift to you, after your gift to me:

And now my question to the blog at large: have you ever seen Not Johnny Sweatpants and AC at the same time? There are certain...odd similarities in their writing. That's my guess; it's not every day that a mild-mannered reporter for a major metropolitan blog hints at their secret identity. Maybe I'm wrong, I could be WAY wrong. But if Lois Lane's intuition has taught me anything, it's this: I know who you are, Not JSP, and I award you the Finish It Monday Through Friday title, for making me laugh the hardest and the earliest.

Seriously, I beg anyone to tell me I'm wrong. Just LOOK:

What's really funny to me is that I am AS convinced as Lois Lane ever was. If NJSP turns out to be someone other than AC, I will feel as silly as Lois Lane did after she jumped into the river in Superman II.

Then Superman tripped over a pink bear rug. Think about it.

Once again I apologize for my late entry but I'm glad I (eventually) got my shit together. Looking forward to reading the others in the morn!

HA! I just read your entry and it sucked!

Actually, it completely ROCKED. Really made me laugh. A perfect pitch between staying true to the spirit of the thing and observing the faults at the same time. I absolutely loved this:

"Hahaha! Omigod, did you see that Christine? He must be so pissed!"

It's clear from reading it that you've been spending a lot of time in that world. Nevertheless, LATE!

Congratulations AC! I had read yours real quick and only realized tonight that I totally boosted your "five minutes in the past to spy on Cool" idea.

Stan -- love the picture! Yes, pick that pencil UP! What a compliment that my story made you do so. Yay.

i am simultaneously honored and unmasked! thanks very much handsome stan.

yes, i am "not johnny sweatpants." i thought i'd throw you off the trail by capitalizing words, but to no avail. i love the other two endings and want to see the next installment of each of those adventures.

i'll post a brief (hopefully intriguing) finish it friday idea early this afternoon.

Sweatpants, you would have made it a three-way tie, and I would have had to cop out on picking a winner. Hilarious! I'm working in the rain all night tonight, otherwise I'd break down which specific moments I found the MOST hysterical (definitely the "warranty" line being cut off, and the nearby volcano erupting...genius!).

Octo & AC - fantastic job! And excellent setup Stan. I'd love to see the Captain Zoom saga continue in a Future Finish it Friday. (FFIF)
