Wolverine Leak Claims First Idiot

The leaked version of Wolverine has been on the net over a week now and the Fox is doing what you would expect like little lemmings chasing their own panic blindly. No surprise there. Yes they are doing the normal "hey everyone, that leaked version is not finished so uhmmm ya, don't watch it cause it's not done and stuff." Yes that was me trying to sound as stupid as possible in order to represent Fox. How did I do. Of course we also have the typical litigious speak of "don't watch or you may go to jail" as well. This is all expected.

Now some random blog entries of reviewing were expected to but I have to admit, I didn't expect to see this last night.

From Dallas News:

I was going to say in the headline that critic Roger Friedman was fired for downloading an unfinished, pirated copy of the upcoming X-Men Origins: Wolverine and then reviewing it on his blog, but News Corp. (which owns both Fox News and the 20th Century Fox film studio) doesn't really seem to know what's happened to the guy.

First News Corp. said Friedman has been fired, then the reporter told Variety he had not been fired, and now Fox News says it's "an internal matter that we're not prepared to discuss at this time."

Regardless, Friedman's review has to go down as one of the dumbest publicity stunts of all time.

Regardless of what you think of current copyright laws, pirating a mega-budget blockbuster movie from your own employer and then bragging about it on a public blog is like smearing the guts of a baby seal on yourself and then leaping naked into the shark tank at Sea World.

Oh, and while the offending review was quickly purged from Foxnews.com, it's here if you want to read it.

For what it's worth, Friedman liked what he saw.

UPDATE: Now Friedman's gone. Fox and Friedman "mutually agreed to part ways immediately."
